Dhotrey-Tonglu-Kalapokhri-Sandakphu-Phalut-Gorkhey Trek

Trip Detail

We were 16 enthusiast in the team who were part of the trek. The youngest member aged 22 and oldest was 62. Following is the detail of how our trip was organized.

Watch the cover video:

Day 1 (13-Mar-2016)
We started our trek from Dhotrey towards Tonglu which is about a 7 Km trek, through the forest-area with abundance of Rhododendrons. Although quite windy, Tonglu provided a great view of Kanchendzonga. Tonglu & Tumbling are awesome places to be away from the crowd even if one doesn’t want to trek a lot.

Day 2 (14-Mar-2016)
In the morning we started our trek from Tonglu to Kalapokhri crossing Tumbling, Gairibas & Kayakata. The 15 Km trek was a comfortable walk till Gairibas with a little inclination of bout 2 Km onward.

Day 3 (15-Mar-2016)
We started our 7 Km trek in the morning from Kalapokhri to Sandakphu, which surely lives up to its name; it was pretty windy and the view was blocked as the clouds started coming in and soon after the hailstorm started.

Day 4 (16-Mar-2016)
Early morning we were able to see the range with some clouds over the “Sleeping Buddha”. We started our trek towards Phalut and the view was simply mind-boggling. The trek till Sabarkum provided immense scenic beauty. The 23 Km trek was a bit difficult towards the end.

Day 5 (17-Mar-2016)
Early morning we went to Phalut-top, a 1 Km walk. The view was superb which helped us forget the last day’s long walk; but it was definitely worth it. Having breakfast we started towards Gorkhey, which is a beautiful village which is on the border of West Bengal & Sikkim, which provides an ideal place to relax. We enjoyed the day on the banks of river “Gorkhey”. The stay in Gorkhey is one of the best part of the entire trek.

Day 6 (18-Mar-2016)
From Gorkhey, we started walking towards Rimbhick; through the thick-forest crossing Rammam, Samanden & the lovely Sirikhola.
